Our Shop "Poterie d'Alsace",
specialized in traditional, crockery,
was set up in 1860.

It exist two kinds of culinary potteries.

You have the "terracotta" from SOUFFLENHEIM for the cooking.
This pottery of varied colours is generally flower-patterned or simply plain, rimmed or with little points. It is especially used for the cooking in oven : oval terrines (Baeckehof), pots, gratin dishes or shaped cake tins (Kougelhopf, Chrismas stars, frogg, double-headed eagle…).
Also crockery : bowls, dishes…

You have also the stoneware, an ancient technique of vitrification (1300°C). This pots, made in BETSCHDORF, are used for the preserving of food (in the past, oil, lard, gherkins, cabbage, eggs). They are typical thanks to a grey colour with simple painted decorations or engraved and painted (cobalt blue). Butter dish, water or wine pitchers have the particularity to be kept cool. The freehand engraved pieces are unique and remain treasures of style and fineness.
